The model results

r.avaflow contains built-in functions for visualizing the simulation results. These functions enable a rapid evaluation of the outcomes without the need for manual post processing. Explore the results by viewing maps and animations derived for selected case studies.

Generic landscape with landslides into reservoir

The animations illustate the possible interaction between a landslide and a reservoir, and the evolution of the flood wave downstream. Thereby, the animation on the left side builds on the assumption of a stable dam (no entrainment allowed). The animation on the right side builds on the assumption of a weak dam highly susceptible to entrainment. More computational experiments performed on this generic landscape are described in detail by Mergili et al. (2017).

Acheron rock avalanche

The animation on the left side displays the evolution of flow height and flow velocity during back-calculation of the Acheron rock avalanche, employing an optimized set of input parameters. The graphics on the right side displays the distribution of the final deposit. More computational experiments performed on the Acheron rock avalanche are described in detail by Mergili et al. (2017).
